Based in Sudbury, Ontario, Compass is the Lead Agency for child & youth mental health services for the districts of Sudbury and Manitoulin. Reporting to the Manager of System Performance, the Clinical CYW Supervisor is responsible for providing clinical supervision to designated staff. The Supervisor is also responsible for developing and enhancing core competencies as identified by the agency to meet responsibilities in delivering core and auxiliary services. The Clinical CYW Supervisor will achieve results through observations, mentoring, coaching, teaching, leading, modeling, and holding others accountable. The incumbent must display continued dedication to the enhancement of clinical skills, competence, and confidence. 

RESPONSIBILITIES

Service Management

  • This role is directly responsible to the Manager of System Performance and supports the Clinical Managers and Youth Wellness Hub Coordinator within multi-disciplinary team settings.
  • Provide direct clinical CYW and Peer Support Work supervision.
  • Show initiative to build capacity and enhance quality client outcomes and fidelity to evidence based/informed models.
  • Support staff in service delivery that adheres to professional standards recognized by the related Ministry, Accreditation, Quality Assurance and applicable professional disciplines.
  • Support staff in opportunities for professional development within designated areas of responsibility and as identified in Performance Appraisals.
  • Provide in-direct clinical services to children, youth and their families supporting front line staff in clinical sessions, at the Youth Wellness Hub, meetings, and case conferences when required. Direct clinical services may be provided when mentoring or coaching.
  • Support implementation of innovative, evidenced, and informed services and group programming to meet client needs, in consultation with the Manager and/or Hub Coordinator.
  • Provide feedback that may help inform changes to clinical or Youth Wellness Hub programs and services.
  • Provide training to Compass staff, and engage in training opportunities as identified by the Manager of System Performance or Clinical Managers.

Administrative Management

  • Support the Clinical Managers in recruitment, evaluation, professional development, and onboarding processes in accordance with agency policies, collective agreements, and regulatory standards.
  • Support staff understanding of, and adherence to established policies and guidelines.
  • Provide coaching, mentoring, and teaching of identified front line staff to enhance and build capacity in specified core competencies.
  • Develop and provide additional recommendations for professional development opportunities. 
  • Play an integral role in the assessment, evaluation, and measurement of clinical and peer support work performance and core competencies of identified staff.
  • The CYW Supervisor will support change management, program development initiatives, and agency committees. 
  • Complete the process of file audits.
  • Regularly support inter-disciplinary team meetings, providing education when appropriate or chairing when necessary.
  • Attend and participate in identified team meetings.
  • Provide the System Performance team with operational information, community and agency trends, feedback, and discussion in the agency service direction.
  • Review relevant client assessments, clinical intervention plans and behavioural plans.
  • Observe group programming at Compass and the Youth Wellness Hub and provide feedback to facilitate the growth of all staff.  
  • Participate in strategic planning and other agency planning activities.         
  • Participate in relevant research activities and program evaluation.
  • Meet regularly for supervision with the Manager of System Performance.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the Manager of System Performance.
  • Work with the Manager of System Performance and the Clinical Managers to ensure staff training needs are addressed and provide training as requested (e.g. orientation to EMHware, My Wellness Passport, Enterprise etc.).

Community

  • Represent the agency in the community to facilitate collaborative relationships.
  • Participate in community events or committees related to children’s mental health issues or Youth Wellness Hubs as assigned.
  • Contribute to community education through presentations to professionals and community groups as assigned. 

Skills:

  • Work in a computerized environment with knowledge of Excel and Word applications.
  • Maintain sensitive and confidential information with a continuous dedication to confidentiality.
  • Assess, prioritize, analyse, and solve problems.
  • Demonstrate organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines.
  • Demonstrate the ability to develop a sound appreciation and knowledge of the Agency’s functions and organizational structure.
  • Possess strong verbal and written communication, preferably in both official languages (English and French).
  • Ability to work collaboratively with other experienced professionals including school boards, colleagues of other health and social service agencies, local politicians, etc.

Knowledge:

  • Familiar with evidence informed practices, including SNAP (Stop Now and Plan), FRIENDS Anxiety Group, Caregiver Skills Building, Attachment Theory, Behaviour Assessments and Management, and work from a Trauma Informed lens.
  • Demonstrate supervisory and mentoring skills.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Excellent clinical assessment and therapy skills.
  • Demonstrated aptitude in the use of software including word processing and data management.
  • Good understanding of child and youth work and related disciplines relative to youth and families’ social, behavioral, emotional and developmental needs.
  • Knowledge and skills in the management and evaluation of client information systems.     
  • Knowledge of the child welfare and children’s mental health systems, and other social and health services.
  • Demonstrated knowledge in community-based programs with a clear understanding of both urban and rural issues and communities.
  • Knowledge and practice of the Agency’s Collective Agreement, and Policies and Procedures. 
  • Knowledge and appreciation of issues facing our diverse populations (i.e. Anishnaabe cultures, Francophone, Immigrant/Refugee, LGBT2SQ, etc.).

Qualifications:

  • Preferred candidates will possess a Child and Youth Work Diploma with 10 years clinical experience, with demonstration of supervisory qualities through leading others or taking on greater responsibility. Equivalent education and experience may be considered.
  • Minimum 7 years of experience in the provision of clinical Child and Youth Work services to children and their families.
  • Membership in a relevant professional association is encouraged but not mandatory.

Other:

  • Must be able to work flexible hours that match service delivery.  May need to work on-call after hours/weekends as required.
  • Demonstrated ability to make sound judgements.

  • Knowledge of Anishnaabe traditional healing ways is considered an asset.
