Based in Sudbury, Ontario, Compass is the Lead Agency for child & youth mental health services for the districts of Sudbury and Manitoulin. Reporting directly to the Director of People and Corporate Services, the Manager, Inclusion, Diversity, Equity & Anti-Racism is responsible for bringing the Inclusion, Diversity, Equity & Anti-Racism (IDEA) strategy to life at Compass. The Manager of IDEA will advise the senior leadership team (SLT) on how to effectively align IDEA to achieve business objectives within the agency. The primary focus of the role is to support our agency’s commitment for a safe and diverse workforce, which is reflective of the communities we serve, and sustaining a workplace culture that is inclusive, welcoming and equitable and where staff and clients experience a sense of belonging. The successful incumbent will also focus on health equity, accessibility and human rights of our clients and their families so as to contribute to the delivery of exceptional client experiences.
This role requires experience in facilitating and effecting strategy within a team alongside a meaningful knowledge of IDEA. The Manager of IDEA plays a key strategic role in advancing, implementing, and promoting agency IDEA strategies through a range of initiatives and activities that align with the agency’s purpose, values and Strategic Plan/priorities. The Manager of IDEA will be a key point of contact with programs, departments, and leaders across the agency, collaborating to advance, advise, guide and champion inclusive behaviours and processes. The Manager of IDEA supports and incorporates IDEA principles into core agency systems, structures, practices and policies, achieving improved results from a staff, leadership, clients, and agency perspective.
DUTIES:
- Build and lead the execution of the agency’s IDEA Strategy, annual operational plans, and measure against identified Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to ensure successful achievement.
- Lead the integration and alignment of IDEA practices and initiatives with the current and emerging needs of the agency while informing and supporting leaders on IDEA best practices.
- Lead a team and/or employees without direct supervision.
- Serve as subject matter expert for diverse workforce and business trends, by leveraging external and internal resources and networks.
- Increase agency awareness of unconscious bias and mitigating bias in the workplace.
- Provide fact-based insights, advice, and counsel to enable leaders to make informed people decisions.
- Development, oversight and implementation of the agency’s accessibility plan and annual IDEA programming and events.
- Contribute to and participates in committees across the agency to embed IDEA at the earliest stages of planning.
- Collaborate with internal partners to integrate DEIA into HR practices.
- Launch awareness campaigns that promote understanding and respect for diversity, belongingness, fostering a culture where differences are valued and conflicts are minimized.
- Act as a resource to assist and guide Leaders and staff in fulfilling the IDEA expectations outlined by the government (Ministry of Health (MOH) and Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services (MCCSS)) and Youth Wellness Hubs Ontario (YWHO).
- Build and oversee external partnerships related to IDEA.
- Partner with community partners to integrate IDEA into clinical practices, structures, processes and approaches as identified within the IDEA strategy.
- Collaborate with diverse community organizations to promote volunteer opportunities and strengthen relationships that reflect the agency’s IDEA values.
- Oversee the listening strategy by taking part in the development and implementation of annual surveys, pulse surveys, exit interviews, stay interviews, focus groups, etc.
- Recommend priorities to foster IDEA within the workplace, ensure a strong engagement level for our employees and enable Compass to become an Employer of Choice.
- Facilitate opportunities for shared learning and collaboration between the agency and community partners, strengthening IDEA initiatives and conflict resolution strategies.
- Implement feedback mechanisms to continuously gather input from employees about IDEA related issues and conflicts.
- Organize events and activities that celebrate cultural diversity, fostering an inclusive environment where differences are appreciated and respected.
- Organize IDEA-focused workshops and training sessions and develop resources to educate employees on a variety topics
- Provide training for leaders on inclusive leadership practices, ensuring they model and promote IDEA principles in their interactions and decision-making.
- Offer consultation and support to managers and supervisors on handling IDEA-related conflicts, providing expert advice and recommending appropriate actions.
- Provide training and education for volunteers on IDEA principles to foster an inclusive environment for staff, clients, and volunteers.
- Monitor, measure and evaluate progress and impact to help drive decisions and bring creativity and strategic thinking to identify new initiatives, solutions, and approaches to address systemic bias and agency barriers.
- Develop and implement comprehensive IDEA frameworks, strategies, tools, initiatives, and action plans that foster IDEA and belongingness along with alignment with our agency’s values, business and people goals.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- A level of education, training, and experience equivalent to a Bachelors’ Degree in Inclusion, Diversity, Equity & Anti-Racism Studies, Education, Psychology, Social Justice, Business Administration, Health Administration, Social Work or a related field.
- Minimum of five (5) years’ experience working with diverse and marginalized populations, including program management and implementation, change management, development, community engagement, training and development, and conducting program evaluations or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience; preferably in a health care environment.
- Minimum of three (3) years’ experience working in a leadership role, with accountability in organizational culture, equity, diversity practices and systems, social accountability, change management and human rights, preferably in a health care or public sector environment.
- Experience in providing advice or coaching in IDEA and/or HR.
- Strong experience in communications, including writing and delivering reports and presentations.
- Strong ability to work with and collaborate with leaders and internal groups.
- Strong organizational, time management, and project management skills and ability to prioritize.
- Outstanding listening, communication, collaboration and team building skills that facilitate coordination and cooperation with the demonstrated ability to coach and mentor team members.
- Comfort in presenting to groups.
- Apply comprehensive knowledge, skills and experience in developing and implementing diversity-focused recruitment guidelines, tools and training to educate and achieve an increased level of inclusive hiring.
- Exceptional conflict resolution and problem-solving skills.
- Work in a computerized environment, knowledge of MS Office programs (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint).
- Ability to work collaboratively with other experienced professionals including external partners, local politicians, agencies who work primarily with culturally diverse populations, etc.
- Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision.
- Proficiency with human resource information systems and metric analysis.
- Demonstrated capability in facilitation and consultation with a variety of individuals/groups from senior executives to front line employees on a range of simple to complex topics.
- Demonstrate inclusive behaviours and support on all dimensions of diversity, with an understanding of the issues faced by people from equity-deserving groups.
- Sound knowledge of provincial human rights, employment policy and legislation relevant to equity, diversity, inclusion, and anti-racism.
- Demonstrated commitment to upholding the shared responsibility of creating lasting and meaningful reconciliation in Canada as per Truth and Reconciliation Commission Report (2015)..
- Knowledge and appreciation of issues facing diverse populations (i.e. Indigenous cultures, Francophone, Immigrant/ Refugee, 2SLGBTQI+, BIPOC).
- Certified Human Resources Leader (CHRL) is an asset.
- Masters Degree in a related field is an asset.
