Compass is the Lead Agency for Child and Youth Mental Health Services in the Districts of Sudbury and Manitoulin. Compass provides mental health, developmental and community services for children, youth and families.
Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director is responsible for the overall leadership and operations of the Agency in accordance with the mission, goals, strategic directions, and policies approved by the Board to create strategies that ensure the organization’s current and future success. The Executive Director is also key to establishing and maintaining positive relationships with community partners, stakeholders and funders. The Executive Director will also ensure the Agency is well-positioned externally, and be a key advocate for mental health services for children and youth in the communities served by the Agency.
Key Responsibilities
• Fosters strategic, cooperative and sound working relationships with key stakeholders, including staff, government, funders, community partners and other groups addressing children and youth mental health service delivery.
• Serves as the primary advocate, spokesperson and representative for the organization within the community and provincially.
• Negotiates effective partnerships with key community partners to ensure collaborative and effective service delivery.
• Works to build relationships through allyship of Indigenous populations and underrepresented groups to promote equity and inclusion.
• Supports the Board of Directors in discharging its governance responsibilities and fulfilling its accountability to clients, funders and other stakeholders.
• Provides updates to the Board regarding internal and external actions and trends which may impact the organization.
• Provides support to senior management team to provide overall operational and performance leadership for the organization.
• Develops, implements and manages succession planning for the organization.
• Manages organizational and operational compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
• Ensures policies are in place to meet legislative requirements and effective management of people.
• Ensures the operations of the Agency are conducted in a financially responsible manner.
• Creates annual operating plans that support the strategic plan and correlate with annual operating budgets.
• Reviews annual budgets for all programs and services, and presents to the Board.
• Works to ensure opportunities for additional resources are evaluated and acted upon.
• Supports the Board in the development of the Agency’s strategic plan and delivery of mental health services for children and youth, in response to stakeholder feedback and input, community need and trends.
• Recommends an annual action plan to the Board of Directors consistent with and to operationalize the strategic plan and provides reports on the progress and achievement of the plan.
• Stays well-informed of current trends related to the organization’s services and anticipates future trends.
• Collects and analyzes information that measures the success of the organization’s program efforts; refines or changes programs in response to that information.
• Develops and monitors strategies for ensuring the long-term financial viability of the organization.
• In keeping with our Lead Agency responsibilities, ensures that system planning for the service area is collaborative and fosters involvement from core service delivery partners, family and youth, clients and community partners.
• Provides funding recommendations to the Government of Ontario assigned ministries for the service area, considering the needs of all children and youth in the service area.
• Ensures mechanisms are in place to identify and assess risks to the organization at all levels.
• Ensures that the needs of the community and population are met, by establishing mechanisms to ensure that quality programs and services are provided.
• Oversees design, delivery, and quality of programs and services.
Qualifications
• Graduate Degree in a related field (business, health administration, social services) and/or significant work experience in the field of mental health and management.
• 5 years of progressive management experience in the non-profit health sector or equivalent experience, with at least 2 years at a senior management level.
• Excellent interpersonal and relationship building skills.
• Excellent written and oral communication abilities in both English and French.
• Demonstrated experience applying knowledge of community challenges and opportunities to successful execution of an agency’s mandate
• Budgeting and financial management skills.
• Values and ethics consistent with the vision and values of the Agency.
• A solid understanding of the Board governance model.
• Registration in good-standing with a professional college or association is considered an asset.
